Thank you for the kind help and useful information...will try to get it to work and post my results.
Maybe we can start a tutorial (wiki-page) if the srsLTE guys are too occupied
Regards,
Jens

Hi Jens --
Joe already gave you a good reply, just adding my two cents to this.
You'll need first start the EPC and the MBMS-GW:
"""
sudo srsmbms
sudo srsepc
"""
Then you can then start the eNB making sure that you enable MBMS and that you use the correct SIB config:
"""
sudo srsenb --enb_files.sib_config=sib.conf.mbsfn --expert.enable_mbsfn=true """
Finally, start up the UE selecting the MBMS service:
"""
sudo srsue --expert.mbms_service=0 --expert.average_subframe_enabled=false
"""
To send musticast data over-the-top -- i.e. from the MBMS GW to the UE
-- you can use socat:
"""
#@MBMS-GW
echo "Hello! I am a multicast packet!" | socat STDIO
UDP4-DATAGRAM:239.255.1.1:6000,bind=172.16.0.254,ip-multicast-if=172.16.0.254,ip-multicast-ttl=64
#@UE
socat STDIO UDP4-RECV:6000,bind=239.255.1.1,ip-add-membership=239.255.1.1:tun_srsue
"""
Note that I am using the 239.255.1.1 multicast address for the over-the-top traffic. That is because the 239.255.0.1 is being used for the M1-U interface to multicast traffic between the MBMS-GW and the eNB (like Joe pointed out).
Hope this helps,
Pedro
