[srslte-users] 5Ghz NON licensed assisted access (i.e. for normal people)

Hi All,

Firstly - happy new year (almost for us - 21:00 here in ireland, hours still for the US, hope it was good AU/NZ ! p.s. a lot of rain here right now - no surprise for us).

I've been playing around with srslte for a few years (just a bit with a blade RF hardware). I big drawback for experimenters (HAM licensed or not) is that the typical modem modules only work on licensed frequencies. I was initially very drawn to the newer 5Ghz LTE modems because I was hoping that it would be possible to use them on the license free 5Ghz spectrum (in fact Telit was very good to send me an engineering sample of a 5G miniPCIe modem with 5G support).

Sadly I think all 5Ghz LTE modems require LLA (where you have to start from a registered/licensed band) which is a real bummer.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get LTE communications working over unlicensed bands? (Save for putting an SDR on each end fo the link?)

All the best for 2021 !

Derek (IRL)
