[srslte-users] Do certain SIM cards work while others do not?

Greetings srsRAN Members,

I know you all are busy so I appreciate you taking the time to read this. I have a question about a ticket that was closed on Dec. 5, 2019 (opened Nov. 30, 2019). It's ticket #421 - the writer asked about an issue where he/she was having issues getting a COTS UE to register to the network. The user stated that initially some Chinese SIM cards were used, then the problem apparently went away simply by using different SIM cards. The user reported that using sysmocom SIM cards worked and the ticket was closed. Does anyone have any insight as to why certain SIM cards would work and others would not? I'm seeing something similar. I have a couple Anritsu SIM cards with MCC-MNC of 001-01 that work just fine when I enter all of the information in the user_db.csv configuration file. I start of the EPC and ENB and can connect just fine (using an Ettus B210). However when I swap out the Anritsu for a sysmocom (chose that one specifically when I saw someone else had the same issue) with an MCC-MNC of 901-70 and enter all of the values for imsi, algo, k, opc, etc. into user_db.csv, the device fails to connect. Actually, it doesn't even seem to attempt to connect (no messages on the ENB screen). I saw similar behavior when trying a Rohde&Schwarz SIM card. Could anyone please provide any insight? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

James Powell
