[srslte-users] COTS UE fails to register to srsLTE

Greetings Everyone,

First, I would like to thank you all for your time. I know that there are threads relating to similar issues and they seem to vary just enough that it seems there isn’t a universal “eureka” answer. I’ve gone through a few hurdles from USB 3.0 issues, VM issues, etc. and seem to have a working system setup. I have downloaded and installed all the software and drivers as well as followed all the steps from COTS UE Application Note — srsLTE 20.10.1 documentation<https://docs.srslte.com/en/latest/app_notes/source/cots_ue/source/index.html#cots-ue-appnote>. I have now made it to the last step of connecting a commercial UE to the network. I have a test SIM and looked up the documented values for the IMSI, algorithm (this one is using XOR), etc. and placed those values in the user_db.csv file. After following the given steps, it’s supposed to “automatically connect to the network”. I can see the network on the COTS UE when I search for networks, however, when I choose to register, the wheel just spins until it finally gives up. The weird thing is that I’m not seeing any authentication failure messages on my screen where I have the srsEPC running (nor the one with the srsENB running). Does anyone have any insight as to why a user would not see any feedback from the srsENB or srsEPC when a device tries to register? Note again, the device does seem to see the network based on the values entered for the MCC and MNC; the network shows up as one of the choices.

I’ve tried two different COTS UEs (an iPhone SE and an old Sony Xperia) using the same test SIM and saw the same behavior. I don't know whether it matters, but I believe my test SIM is programmed for CDMA. I’m using an ETTUS B210 USRP and I have a 5dBI 700-2600MHz antenna on the TX/RX end of RFA and a 7dBI 698-2700MHz antenna on the RX2 end of RFA. (I am seeing the expected LEDs light up as well – red for TX/RX and green for RX2.) At this point, I’d even be happy to see some feedback from the srsEPC or srsENB letting me know that it failed to authenticate or something. Do any of you know if there may be some other configuration settings that need to be tweaked or frequency ranges that are not the defaults that may need to be set? Any advice would be appreciated. I know there are similar threads and I apologize if I missed any that address this specific issue. I’m just not sure what to try next in terms of troubleshooting.

Thank You,

James P.
