Dear SDR hackers,

We are excited to announce the release of srsRAN 22.04 [1].

This release brings baseline 5G SA support to srsUE and srsENB.

With this, users will now be able to create an 5G SA radio access
network using srsUE and srsENB. For full end-to-end connectivity only a
third-party 5G core network is needed in addition to that. Our 5G SA eNB
is 3GPP Release 15 aligned, allows NR FDD configurations and comes with
COTS UE support.

In addition to that the 22.04 release has a few more changes under the
hood, including a new dynamic RF library loading mechanism. With that
srsRAN will detect and load RF modules during run-time instead
compile-time which can be very useful in some deployments and also for
package managers.
On the signal processing side the most noteworthy change is the
introduction of a Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) block. CFR can reduce the
peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of the 4G eNB downlink and UE uplink
signal.

For this release, we've also added added application notes outlining how
to connect a 5G SA capable UE to srsRAN [2] and how to create an E2E SA
network using srsRAN and ZMQ [3].

The full changelog for 22.04 is available on GitHub [4] for those that
would like more information on the improvements and changes that come
with the new release.

Happy hacking and enjoy the release.
